Michael Mina
Michael Mina is the chef, founder, and executive chairman of MINA Group, an award-winning restaurant company with more than 30 acclaimed concepts across the country. Born in Cairo and raised in Washington state, Mina began his culinary journey at the Culinary Institute of America before working alongside celebrated chefs Charlie Palmer and George Morrone, with whom he opened the landmark San Francisco restaurant AQUA in 1991.
Over the course of his career, Mina has become known for pioneering techniques, impeccable hospitality, and a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation of chefs. He has been recognized with numerous accolades, including James Beard Foundation awards, Bon Appétit’s Chef of the Year, and a Michelin star at his eponymous restaurant.
From San Francisco to New York, Hawaii, and beyond, Mina’s restaurants celebrate exceptional food, wine, and service while reflecting the unique character of each community. His philanthropic work includes supporting local initiatives and serving as an advocate for Ava’s Kitchen, a nonprofit dedicated to pediatric cancer awareness.
Most recently named one of Robb Report’s “50 Most Powerful People in American Fine Dining,” Mina continues to redefine the modern dining experience. His second cookbook, My Egypt: Cooking from My Roots, will be released in 2024, showcasing his journey from childhood influences to career-defining creations.
